Wolk a double champion in waiting

Robert Wolk heads to the Zwartkops Global Touring Car Championship finale, Saturday 15 October on the verge of back-to-back titles his Chemical Logistics Toyota Corolla GTC. Even without the results of a hearing to win back enough points to make it a mere formality, Wolk arrives in Pretoria needing one extra point over his nearest rival in the first race, to clinch the 2022 crown.

“This weekend is all about ensuring we consolidate our season and wrap up the championship,” Robert Wolk confirmed. “At present, we are 21 points ahead, so a strong race 1 could seal it with a race to spare. “Nevertheless, we are looking forward to another strong weekend, and have no doubt the team will give me a car to do the job on Saturday.

“Of course, we are still waiting for the verdict on our MSA appeal against a few points we feel were unfairly deducted after one or two incidents earlier in the season. So pending the outcome of that, hopefully we will be in an even more comfortable position going into the weekend. “Either way, we are ready, and we can’t wait for Zwartkops. “Bring it on!”

Teammate, Julian van der Watt is looking for a break following a tough few race weekends aboard his Chemical Logistics Ford Focus RS GTC. “The racing gods have not been very kind to me over the past few races,” Julian smiled. “But that’s just racing, so we have picked ourselves up, dusted off and we are ready and looking forward to a better weekend at last, and a good end to our season at Zwartkops.”

Third team member of the WCT Racing-run Chemical Logistics team, young gun Andrew Rackstraw is another driver looking to end his rookie GTC season on a high aboard his Investchem RDSA Audi S3. “I am really excited for the final round of the Global Touring Car Championship,” Andrew reported. “It has been an amazing learning year for me and the team, and I intend to end off on a high, to be best positioned for the 2023 season.”

“We have worked very hard this year and we arrive at Zwartkops on the verge of a back-to-back title for Robbie,” Chemical Logistics Racing’s WCT Engineering team manager Stuart Thompson pointed out. “Julian and Andrew are also due for a break, so here’s to a great weekend in Pretoria.

“Chemical Logistics Racing has done everything right once again throughout the 2022 season so far,” team boss Ian Schofield concluded, “Now we just need to wrap it all up at Zwartkops. “We have the champagne ready – go get it, team!”
