Leyton Fourie on the verge of third title in two years

Fresh from his successful debut in the BMW M2 Cup, Leyton Fourie is focused on wrapping up the 2022 Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup title at Zwartkops Raceway this coming weekend (October 14-15).

It has been a successful two years in South African motorsport for 17-year-old Leyton. The minimum age rule in South African motorsport prevented him from making his main circuit debut before July 2020. Subsequently, the final six months of the year saw him getting to grips with both the Polo Cup and VW Challenge championships, driving for the Signature Motorsport team. In 2021, he moved to the Universal HealthCare Team RED Racing outfit, with whom he won both titles.

In 2022 and within the same stable but also backed by Express Hire, he moved to the GTC SupaCup. It did not take him long to establish himself as a title contender and has taken a victory at each of the circuits on the tour; the only driver to do so. Leyton heads up stablemate Jeffrey Kruger by 20 points heading into the season finale.

“It has been an extraordinary journey to date,” says Leyton. “If I win this title, it will make it three titles in 12 months, and I must admit that it’s not really sinking in yet. But on this journey, I’ve learned that nothing comes without hard work, and that is exactly what we know is required at Zwartkops. It’s been close between Jeffrey and I throughout the season. I was able to extend the margin into double figures in the penultimate round, but that is no guarantee of anything. We know that there’s still a lot that lays ahead of us before we can pop the champagne.”

Both races will be contested over 12 laps and will start at 13:05 and 15:50, respectively. Spectators can purchase tickets directly from Zwartkops Raceway. The event will be streamed live via the Leyton Fourie Racing Facebook page and the 2WheelsTV YouTube channel.
