Final 2022 GTC SupaCup outing awaits determined Van der Walt

Jean-Pierre van der Walt aims to conclude a remarkable Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup debut season in good form this coming weekend (14-15 October) in the Zwartkops Raceway season finale.

The Platinum Wheels Polo SupaCup driver occupies sixth place on the points table ahead of the final race day. Apart from the penultimate round, where he recorded his first retirement due to accident damage, he has been one of the most consistent scorers in the series. A repeat of his form earlier this year in the previous visit to the circuit, where he trailed the leading group throughout, could aid this goal. In Round 2, the reigning Simola Hillclimb champion recorded his first podium when he finished third based on accumulated times for the day, a feat he would like to repeat.

“It has been a superb debut season thus far,” says Van der Walt. “We knew the GTC SupaCup would not be easy. It has taken some hard work to regularly jostle for positions with some of the most experienced names in South African motorsport. For me, this all started four years ago, really, but I have enjoyed every single moment of it. There are scenarios of how the points can turn out, but the most important thing for me will be to get some good positions on the track. They always say you’re only as good as your most recent performance, so let’s take a solid performance into the off-season.”

Both races will be contested over 12 laps and start at 13:05 and 15:50. Spectators can purchase tickets directly from Zwartkops Raceway. The event will be streamed live via the PW Racing Facebook page and the 2WheelsTV YouTube channel.
