Veteran racer Rui Campos is set to return to the Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup Grid for the first time this season (April 22-23) and joins sons Jason and Keegan as Round 2 of the championship heads to Zwartkops Raceway.
Campos senior made his first GTC SupaCup appearance back in October 2020 at the Aldo Scribante Race Track, Gqeberha, and then again seventh months later in May 2021 at the same circuit. His last race was at the Border Motorsport East London Grand Prix Circuit, East London, in August 2021 and therefore sees the Campos Transport owner making his Zwartkops GTC SupaCup debut next weekend.
Jason makes his tenth appearance since the GTC SupaCup’s inaugural race and his fourth at Zwartkops Raceway, a circuit where he has enjoyed the most success with two race victories in 2021. Younger sibling Keegan makes his fourth GTC SupaCup start next weekend and second at Zwartkops, where he claimed a second and third-place finish at the championship’s last visit to Pretoria.
“It’s going to be quite an exciting day for all of us, and the first time we will all three be on track while competing in the same race. No doubt Jason will be looking to bounce back from his opening round misfortune, and I’d like to improve on my runner-up position last year and join Jason as a Zwartkops winner. With 24 cars on the grid, including 15 SupaCup cars, it should be an exhilarating day of racing for spectators,” stated Keegan.
Friday will see three Practice Sessions with a Qualifying Session and two races scheduled for Saturday. Qualifying (10:00) and both races (13:25) and (16:30) will be live-streamed on the GTC Facebook page from 10:00. Tickets for race day are available for purchase from the circuit by contacting the office on 012 384 2299 or sending them an email at info@zwartkops.co.za during regular office hours.
