Fourie set for Zwartkops GTC SupaCup debut

Round 2 of the Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup Championship resumes at Zwartkops Raceway on April 22-23, where 2022 SupaCup rookie and reigning Volkswagen Polo Cup champion Leyton Fourie will be looking to grab his maiden win in only his second appearance.

Fourie, who makes his SupaCup debut at his home circuit, boasts an impressive record at Zwartkops, having triumphed twice at the 2,4km circuit, with three further podiums from the five Polo Cup races in 2021. Sixteen-year-old Fourie, the youngest competitor on the 2022 SupaCup grid, heads to Pretoria third in the championship after a double-podium finish at the opening round in Cape Town in March.

“Strange to think that I’m making my debut at a circuit that I’ve driven numerous times over the last two seasons,” said Fourie. “I have however done some testing in my Universal Racing/Express Hire Supa Polo at the circuit this season. It’s a challenging little circuit where your race day starts with that vital qualifying lap. The team and I will therefore be focused on Friday’s three practice sessions in the hope to optimise our setup for a top grid position. Thanks again to Universal Health, Express Hire and OMP Racing for the support. I’m looking forward to a good race weekend and would like to invite all the fans to come out in support of the National Extreme Festival.”

Friday will see three Practice Sessions with a Qualifying Session and two races scheduled for Saturday. Qualifying (10:00) and both races (13:25) and (16:30) will be live-streamed on the GTC Facebook page. Tickets for race day are available for purchase from the circuit by contacting the office on 012 384 2299 or sending them an email at info@zwartkops.co.za during regular office hours.
