Van Der Walt eager to build on superb GTC SupaCup debut

Ahead of his second outing in the Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup this coming weekend (April 22-23), Jean Pierre van der Walt is eager to be one of the top contenders at Zwartkops Raceway.

Currently, he occupies seventh place on the 2022 points table after recording the same position in both the Killarney International Raceway races. On both occasions, he found himself bringing up the rear of the leading pack.

“It was certainly a good start, especially when taking into account that we had a lot of practice time compromised with repairs and setup changes” says the Platinum Wheels Polo SupaCup driver. “But we are here to be up there and not just in there. It is really competitive at the front of the GTC SupaCup field and will be looking to be jostling for some of those top positions this weekend. If we put together a solid weekend from early on, we could well find ourselves in contention for a first podium finish.”

The coming weekend will also mark the start of a busy racing campaign for both Van der Walt as well as the PW Racing team as a whole. “We have the Simola Hillclimb coming up soon as well and there is another new campaign that we are eager to announce. Starting it all with a strong weekend will be perfect.”

Both the weekend’s races will take place on Saturday and will be contested over 12 laps. They are scheduled to start at 13:25 and 16:30. Spectator tickets are available directly from Zwartkops Raceway and all of Saturday’s races will be streamed live on the PW Racing Facebook page.
