Neveling adds East London podium to solid 2023 season

This past weekend at the East London Grand Prix Circuit, Arnold Neveling achieved his fourth podium finish of 2023 in Round 5 of the Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup.

Although finding himself adrift of the pace at the front, Neveling put his Stradale Motorsport / GOSCOR Lift Trucks-backed Volkswagen Polo SupaCup in fifth place on the grid for Race 1.

Saturday’s first race saw him jostle for fourth place with points leader Keegan Campos in the opening laps before a cat-and-mouse battle developed in the second half, including third-placed Tate Bishop. Neveling brought up the rear of this group while finishing fifth.

Despite an early third place in the Race 2 running order, he lost the position to Bishop, with the latter repeating his third place. Neveling and Campos recommenced their battle, with Neveling holding the upper hand this time as the pair crossed the line. However, a post-race penalty for Bishop, related to an early incident between himself and Campos, saw Neveling promoted to third.

“Ideally, we would’ve preferred to take the result outright, but on a weekend which saw us lack the pace, we needed fortune on our side,” said Neveling. “There is no doubt that this class is competitive, but we must dig deeper to move up the pecking order. We still want to have a win under the belt before the end of the season.”

Neveling’s next GTC SupaCup outing will be at Killarney International Raceway on 8-9 September.
