Wolk’s day of consolidation

Chemical Logistics racing came away from Red Star Raceway without a win for the first time this season, but still in a better championship position. Team leader Robbie Wolk is now in a stronger lead in the title chase.

Wolk achieved a decent haul of points, but he felt it could have been better. “We had a frustrating Saturday, after a strong practice, but we couldn’t find a good balance for qualifying and the first race,” Robbie explained. “A win was on the cards in race 2 and I was coming through from fifth and challenging for the lead. “But I was run wide out the hairpin and Michael van Rooyen, who was behind, hit my left rear corner causing damage. “Luckily I managed to limp home in third and score some valuable points.”

Julian van der Watt was happy to be back in the mix in his Chemical Logistics Ford Focus RS GTC following a tough weekend in the previous round. “It was good to be back in the bunch in Delmas,” Julian admitted. “I qualified third and stayed there in the first race. “Race 2 was tougher but I fought back to fifth for fourth overall and a nice bag of points. “Thanks team!”

GTC rookie, reigning Investchem Formula 1600 champion Andrew Rackstraw had a frustrating rollercoaster weekend aboard his older RDSA Audi “It was a big learning weekend,” Andrew reported. “Unfortunately it wasn’t our weekend. “I had air in the brakes in race 1, so had to manage that. “I had a great start to lead and pulled a gap in the second race. “Unfortunately the turbo manifold broke so I had to nurse it home. “I learnt a lot and made big steps forward on the chassis. “Congrats to Robbie for extending the championship lead, and to WCT for all the hard work.”

Team manager and WCT Engineering boss Stuart Thompson was satisfied with the outcome of a tough weekend. “You can’t win em all they say, but all three drivers finished both races to consolidate their championship challenges, so all good.” Team principal Ian Schofield concluded, “The lads may not have had a day to remember in Delmas, but still a good team effort all round. “Well done lads!”
