On behalf of the Global Touring Cars (GTC) Championship and SupaCup, our entrants and our brand partners Dunlop Tyres South Africa, ATS Motorsport and SKF, we would like to offer our deepest condolences to Volkswagen Motorsport South Africa and the loved ones of those involved in yesterday’s (May 29) accident outside Colesberg involving the team’s transport vehicle.
At this point, we will only confirm the details provided by the team on their Facebook page. Volkswagen of South Africa will communicate more information at a later stage and in compliance with company regulations.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to all supporters of the GTC category and the Volkswagen Motorsport team for all the messages of condolences and support received.
Until more details become available, we would like to appeal to everyone to refrain from speculation relating to the nature of the accident, the content of the transporter and possible consequences. This information will be made available at a later stage as well. We are also aware that there are visuals of the accident being circulated via social media and messaging platforms. As a gesture of respect to those involved, we would also like to request that you refrain from forwarding the content.
