[clear]GTC has appointed well respected motorsport official Tony Taylor as its permanent Clerk of the Course. Commenting on the appointment, GTC Technical Director Vic Maharaj says, “Our experience in running motorsport series has taught us that one of the key ways to achieve consistency in the application of the rules is to appoint permanent officials to the series. To achieve this we have recently announced the appointment of Ian Scheckter as our Driver Conduct Official and we are now announcing Tony Taylor who has joined us as our permanent Clerk of the Course. Tony comes with a wealth of experience and he and Ian Schecker will apply the rules evenly and fairly and most importantly, consistently, over the course of the season.”
[clear]66 year old Taylor has been involved in motorsport since 1966. This experienced hand started initially racing motorcycles, ÔÇÿuntil I fell and it hurt like hell’ he says, before ÔÇÿracing cars but ran out of talent and money at the same time… so became a motorsport official instead!’
His career has included being Chief Marshal at the Kyalami GP Circuit from 1999 until 2006 and has officiated at many of the countries World Championship events including MotoGP, WSBK and the FIA Motocross World Championships too and has worked with Roberto Nosseto (SBK Race Director), Charlie Whiting (F1 Race Director) and Paul Butler (MotoGP Race Director) on many occasions.
Tony is currently Chairman of the Johannesburg Branch of the Sports Car Club and acts as Promoter and Organiser of the Historic Tour, now in its 7th year. He is married to Shelley-Anne who also has a long and distinguished career as a motorsport official.
