Killarney learning curve

The second round of the 2023 South African GTC Championship took place at Killarney last weekend (18 March) and it was certainly a steep learning curve for Josh le Roux.

Josh has always had a love – hate relationship with the Cape Town circuit and this weekend was no different. Friday’s practice sessions saw Josh steadily improve his lap times as he came to grips with the change from a single seater to a saloon car.

Josh qualified sixth, well knowing that he still had some work to do to get to the front runners. He had a solid start to the first heat, before disaster struck towards the end of lap two, when Josh found himself stuck in the sand trap in Cape Town Corner. Unfortunately, the sand trap did it’s job well, putting an end to Josh’s race.

The recovery team got the car back to the pit complex, where the WCT Engineering team gave the car a once over. Fortunately, there was no damage to the Investchem Chemical Logistics Audi and Josh was able to line up on the grid for race two.

Josh put in a solid race two performance, his goal, to gain as much knowledge and seat time in the car as possible. He took the chequered flag in sixth place.

“I was hoping to have better pace, but this is how motorsport goes sometimes. I am happy with my progress and will be working hard to close the gap to the front runners. A huge thank you to my sponsors, team, family and supporters,” commented Josh.

Josh is proudly sponsored by: Master Stairs, Investchem Chemical Logistics, Vitro Frameless Glass, MS Technic – Sparco Store Africa and New Heights.
