Leyton Fourie aims to add Killarney International Raceway to his list of Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup victories this coming weekend (16-17 September) in the penultimate round of the series.
Leyton has recorded one win at each circuit on this year’s calendar, apart from the Cape Town circuit, which hosted the season opener. The Express Hire / Universal Motorsport Polo SupaCup driver knows that a double victory at the circuit will also tilt the odds of securing the title in his favour. Heading into Round 6, Leyton holds a seven-point lead over his stablemate and the class’s most experienced driver. For the most part, honours and races between the pair have been pretty even. Should Leyton win the title, he will join a very exclusive list of South African drivers to have won two national circuit racing titles before their 18th birthday. Leyton is also the current Polo Cup champion.
“It’s a tit-for-tat scenario between us thus at the moment,” says Leyton. “If I take the Race 1 win, Jeff takes the second. If one of us takes the Dunlop Pole Position, the other records the fastest lap. Apart from Round 2, this has been the situation for the entire season. With only the season finale to go after this, I would love to have just that little bit more of a gap, so we will be pushing hard this weekend to achieve that.”
Official practice commences on Friday, while Saturday will see two races, the first at 13:10 and the second at 16:05. While spectators are welcome to attend the event, the action will be streamed live via Leyton’s official race Facebook page.
