Sixteen-year-old Leyton Fourie will set his sights on Red Star Raceway this weekend, determined to extend his Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup lead as Round 4 of the championship heads to the Mpumalanga Province.
Heading into the midway point of the 2022 season, the Express Hire / Universal Motorsport driver holds a three-point advantage over seasoned campaigner and stablemate Jeffrey Kruger, with former GTC Champion Keagan Masters also in close contention.
Leyton remains the youngest competitor in the series and has made an impressive debut with two race wins from his six starts thus far. Rated as one of the best young drivers in South Africa, his past 23 months have seen quite a prolific rise from the reigning Polo Cup and VW Challenge champion.
“I’m looking forward to this weekend and am confident that we are well-prepared for the challenge ahead,” says Leyton. “The action on track has been as close as the points table, and Friday will be crucial for our weekend. Every session is vital for us to gather data so we can be on that front row come Saturday. Recent races here have also shown that after a few laps, the cars get warm and then overtaking becomes nearly impossible. So, as we’ve already seen this season, qualifying pretty much sets the tone for your weekend result.”
Both the races on Saturday will be contested over a 12-lap distance and are scheduled to start at 12:45 and 15:25, respectively. Spectator tickets are available directly from Red Star Raceway, while the full race day will be streamed live on Leyton’s official Facebook page and the 2WheelsTV YouTube Channel.
